Bruce Point Beach House is located across from Boughton Island and
a one mile long sand spit. As per the photo below, the old channel
use to run between the end of the sand spit and the mainland, but countless
storms have all but shut off this flow. The sand spit is growing by
15 feet per year and will eventually bridge the gap.
You can walk to the island at low tide and the best way to get there
is to walk to the left once you get on the Bruce Point Beach
for a few hundred feet to where the sand bars meet the mainland.
You can
then walk the sandbar to the island. If you try and walk straight
out from the path, you will have to cross the old channel and
it is a bit muddy. If you are on the island and the tide starts
to rise, you should
head back to Bruce Point but there is no need to panic as he
tide rises very slowly and there are no deep holes to have to
worry about, just
follow the sandbars back.
